Learn from the past…
Prepare for the future.
In May 1940, Adolf Hitler's launched his powerful Wehrmacht with a Blitzkrieg attack against Britain and France. The Germans enjoyed dramatic success and in a matter of days had nearly overrun British and French forces on the continent. In light of this disaster, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Neville Chamberlain is forced to resign, and on May 10, 1940 he recommended Sir Winston Churchill as his replacement. Over the next six weeks as leader of the Great Britain, Churchill was under pressure to commence peace negotiations with Hitler or rally the British people to fight the seemingly invincible Nazi regime alone – whatever the cost. His success during this desperate moment earned Churchill a place as one of the most successful strategic leaders during the 20th century.
During this leadership workshop, participants will examine not only the history of these dramatic days, but also the strategic leadership qualities and critical thinking Churchill displayed that are invaluable for any leader. We will further examine how Churchill led others, his peers, and himself during a major crisis and conclude by considering how any leader can manage adversity and build resilience.
